The Clever Canine

The Clever Canine is owned and operated by Andrew Nelson and Kris Snider. Kris Snider, one of Hillcrest Veterinary Clinic’s former registered veterinary technicians, leads the training in Morgantown and the surrounding areas.

They provide modern dog training using positive reinforcement techniques through both group classes and individualized private lessons for the most common dog behaviors.

Group Class Offerings

Puppy Kindergarten

Starting: June 7th at 6:00 PM (Every Monday for 6 weeks)

A group class for puppies 6–24 weeks old that focuses on building the human-animal bond while teaching impulse control, relaxation, basic commands, socialization, cooperative care, leash work, crate training, and fun games.

Canine Fundamentals

Starting: June 7th at 7:00 PM (Every Monday for 6 weeks)

For dogs over 24 weeks old, this group class covers the same foundation as Puppy Kindergarten, focusing on essential skills that strengthen the bond between dog and owner.

Canine Basic Manners – Next Level

Starting: June 7th at 6:00 PM (Every Tuesday for 6 weeks)

Designed for graduates of Puppy Kindergarten, Canine Fundamentals, or with trainer approval. This faster-paced class focuses on impulse control, shaping behaviors, active stays, leash work, and obedience with distractions.

Real World Obedience

Date & Time: To Be Determined (6 consecutive weeks)

For graduates of Canine Basic Manners or with trainer approval. This class teaches real-world skills such as behavior chains, focus motion, and how to apply obedience in everyday situations.

AKC Canine Good Citizen Prep Class & Testing

Duration: 6-week group class offered several times per year

Prepares dogs for the Canine Good Citizen Title test, with the test held during the last class. The prep class can be attended with or without the intention of testing.

AKC Tricks Class

Duration: 6-week group class offered several times per year

A fun class that teaches tricks for the AKC Tricks Title (Novice, Intermediate, Advanced) while strengthening the bond with your dog.

Obstacle Course and Games

Duration: 6-week group class offered several times per year

An interactive class featuring obstacle courses and games that emphasize fun, teamwork, and relaxed stays. This is a non-competitive class designed for enjoyment and relationship building.

Cooperative Care / Socialization 101

Duration: 6-week group class offered several times per year

Focuses on socialization to sights, sounds, and objects, as well as cooperative care such as muzzle training, nail trims, and grooming. There is no direct dog-to-dog interaction, making it ideal for distance socialization.
